Highest amount of Sask. prisoner escapes in five years
They haven’t been as high-profile as a bid for freedom with spoons back in 2008, but there have been a number of recent escapes from Saskatchewan jails.
This year, the province has recorded eight escapes from secure youth custody and five from adult jail.
It’s the highest number since 2011. On average there are about two a year.
“We are seeing a bit of an increase this year and it is a question of why that is,” said Drew Wilby, spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice.
