Two youths in custody at the North Battleford Youth Centre were arrested and charged Sunday night for assaulting peace officers.

Battlefords RCMP Sgt. Neil Tremblay said RCMP were called to the facility at roughly 9 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25. The peace officers assaulted were guards at the facility and were trying to apprehend one of the youths for having a weapon.

“They had some type of a homemade edged weapon that they weren’t turning over,” he said. “It was never used in the assault however.”

A 15-year-old was charged with two counts of assaulting a peace officer and a 17-year-old was charged with assaulting a peace officer, resisting arrest, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and mischief.
