2016 BBEX Awards finalists announced

All the applications have been reviewed and now the finalists for the 2016 Battlefords Business Excellence (BBEX) Awards have been announced.

Forty-one finalists, a record number in the 23-year history of the awards, are split up into six categories; New Business Venture, Customer Service, Marketing, Micro Business, Community Contribution, and Battlefords’ Best Employer.

The winners of each category will be eligible for the Business of the Year Award, which will also be revealed at the gala.

Battlefords Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Linda Machniak said the amount of finalists shows the strength of business in the Battlefords.

“We had a record number of applicants this year and on top of that, many of the business names are recognizable and some of the biggest names in the community,” she said.

In addition to the six categories and Business of the Year, the Heritage Award will be handed out to honour the Dekker family.

Machniak called the Heritage Award one of the most prestigious awards handed out during the gala.

“To the Dekker family and their longevity in the radio and media businesses in the community, I think it’s only a small token of our appreciation for all the work and contributions that they’ve made over many decades,” she said.

Since the finalists have now been decided, all that’s left is to put together the gala and all the work which comes with it.

“I expect that we’ll have a full house for sure at the Dekker Centre. It’s Oct. 4 so we don’t have a significant amount of time to get all of the things that we still have to do done, but I’m sure it will come off as it always does,” Machniak said. “We have great support from the committee and from the chamber itself and I’m really looking forward to a great evening in October.”
