Riders head coach Chris Jones speaks after league fines team for roster violations
In a prepared statement, Saskatchewan Roughrider’s head coach Chris Jones spoke on Friday about theCFL’s decision to fine the team $60,000 for roster violations.
This is the full transcript of that statement:
I am here to address yesterday’s league decision to fine our football club for roster violations. We received notice from the league office a few weeks ago regarding this inquiry. I was comfortable enough with our process the way we do things that was developed through 14 years and four teams in this league that I invited the team representative to observe a practice, which they did (on) July 25.
We were found to be in violation of having a six-game injured players participate in rehabilitation work outs after practice, as well as having practice roster and players here for evaluation participate in developmental periods following our team‘s practice. I accept the league’s decision and am aware of the errors, we’ve made the necessary adjustments and will be moving forward accordingly. I am only here to talk about the Saskatchewan Roughriders, but I hope the situation results in all nine teams being held in the same regard and to the same standard.
