Albers returns to majors with six-inning relief appearance

Aug 12, 2016 | 10:08 AM

A pitcher from the Battlefords is back in the major leagues for the first time in over a year.

Andrew Albers pitched six innings in relief Thursday, Aug. 11, as the Minnesota Twins lost to the Houston Astros 10-2. Albers allowed three earned runs on 11 hits, with five strikeouts, for an earned run average of 4.50. He entered the game at the start of the fourth inning, in for Tommy Milone.

Twins manager Paul Molitor said after the game he was “grateful” Albers was there to preserve the team’s bullpen.

Albers was called up from Minnesota’s minor-league affliate Rochester, Wednesday night, after that night’s game was rained out and rescheduled as a doubleheader Thursday. The Twins were allowed to have a 26th man on their roster for the second game, but Albers joined the regular 25-man roster when pitcher Buddy Boshers was moved to the disabled list between games.
