Aug 11, 2016 | 12:13 PM

UPDATE: The man killed in a shooting near Biggar has been identified by police as 22-year-old Colten Boushie.

Boushie lived on Red Pheasant First Nation, but his Facebook profile states he was originally from Great Falls, Montana.

Friends and family took to social media to share condolences and memories of Boushie, whose nickname was ‘Coco.’

Cyrina Bull posted on Facebook: “He had (a) big friendly heart not one to ask for much, happy with what he had but sure had goals and dreams that he was working forward to… Sure going miss (you) Colten RIP.”

Baptiste Marcus posted a photo of several men on horseback with the comment: “Remember that day like it was yesterday going to miss you Coco! Always had a smile on your face, see you again soon Colten Boushie. Much love and respect.”

Police have also clarified three other occupants in the vehicle at the shooting were taken into custody yesterday, Aug. 10, but have all been released, although charges are still being considered.

Gerald Stanley, 54, has been remanded to custody until Aug. 18, after he briefly appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on Thursday, Aug. 11. He was also banned from contacting two different people.

Stanley was charged with second degree murder after allegedly shooting a man dead Tuesday, Aug. 9 on his property near Biggar.

According to an RCMP press release, a vehicle drove onto the defendant’s property at roughly 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. The five people in the vehicle were not known to Stanley, and were told to leave. One man was ultimately shot and pronounced dead at the scene.

Biggar RCMP and the RCMP Major Crime Unit North are still investigating why the vehicle came onto Stanley’s property in the first place and the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Stanley was arrested at the scene. Three of the vehicle’s occupants – one female adult, one female youth and a male adult – were taken into custody as part of a related theft investigation. The fifth occupant, a male youth, was found later. None of the vehicle’s occupants were charged, but police said property offence related charges are being considered.

An autopsy will be conducted this week to confirm the identity of the deceased.
