Playoff match ups set in North Sask. baseball league

The first round matchups are set in for the North Saskatchewan River Baseball League playoffs.

The North Battleford Beavers just made the playoffs with a record of 7-9. They’ll take on the first-place Lloydminster Twins in the first round. The Twins finished with a 13-3 record.

The defending champion Border City Blue Jays finished in seventh place and will play the Wilkie Brewers who ended their season with an 11-5 record.

Meadow Lake also finished 11-5, and will take on the 9-7 Macklin Lakers, while the 11-5 Unity Cardinals will play Standard Hill, which finished 10-6.

The first round of a best-of-three series are to be completed by July 26, but an official schedule has not been released.

The league also announced team MVPs. Kyle Palmer was named the Beavers’ most valuable player. Palmer had a batting average of .525 in 40 appearances at the plate, second to Standard Hill’s MVP Brett Harrison, who had an average of .653 in 49 at-bats.

Other team MVP honours went to Kevin Gerwing (Meadow Lake), Landon Noyes (Border City), Aaron Chrapko (Midwest), Jesse Bannerman (Mervin), David Schell (Wilkie), Chris Osmak (Lloydminster Twins), Layne Young (St. Walburg), Rhett Feser (Unity), Jared Coghill (Lloydminster Redhawks), and Jared Balquiere (Edam).
