Two new doctors coming to Twin City Medical Clinic

Jul 1, 2016 | 12:48 PM

Soon Battlefords residents won’t have to worry about not being able to get medical attention when they need it.

Two new family physicians are scheduled to arrive at the Twin City Medical Clinic on Sept. 1.

Prairie North Health Region CEO David Fan said the process of getting the doctors to the Battlefords is nearly complete.

“They are currently undergoing an assessment process in the provinces before they are ready to practice,” he said. “We are looking forward to their arrival.”

According to Fan it’s a two-part assessment. The doctors must first undergo a rigorous set of exams before working three months in a real clinical practice environment.

“They have successfully navigated phase one, they are now on to phase two,” Fan said. “Once passed phase one, they are well set to make it to phase two, that’s why I’m confident they will be ready for practice.”

Fan is hoping the new doctors will stay once in the Battlefords, taking the Twin City Medical Clinic to five physicians.

“I think generally there has been a shortage of family physicians for many years,” Fan said. “But we have been slowly adding to the number of physicians in the Battlefords. We need to add more to meet the demands of the expanding services.”

The doctors will be accepting patients immediately, and Fan said their contributions will build a viable and accommodating practice in the cities.
