Youth charged after alleged threat at Maidstone schools

Jun 15, 2016 | 3:59 PM

A male youth was charged with several offences following Tuesday’s incident in Maidstone that resulted in two schools being placed in hold-and-secure mode.

Charges include uttering threats, mischief, public mischief, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and common nuisance.

These charges follow an incident on the morning of Tuesday June 14, when Maidstone High School and Ratushniak Elementary School were placed into hold-and-secure mode after one of the schools became aware of a threat made to harm the school and some students. The hold-and-secure was lifted at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday and the suspect was taken into custody.

Because the accused is under the age of 18, he cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
