Alleged plan to kill spouses ‘just a discussion’: Accused

It was a curse-filled day in the trial of two lovers charged with plotting to murder their spouses.

The jury at Prince Albert’s Court of Queen’s Bench heard audio of Curtis Vey in a cell talking to an undercover RCMP officer on July 6, 2013 – the day of his arrest for allegedly conspiring to commit murder.

Vey and Angela Nicholson were arrested and charged after his wife recorded them discussing an apparent plot to kill her and Nicholson’s husband, and turned the recording over to RCMP on July 1, 2013.

The audio recording heard in court today, May 31, was taken the day Vey was arrested, which coincidentally fell on the same date as his 28th wedding anniversary.

Much of the recording featured Vey and the officer discussing anything and everything for hours, such as jail food, Vey’s farm equipment and the names scratched into the walls of the cell. However, Vey admitted to the officer he and Nicholson had talked about killing her husband, who was allegedly a dangerous drug addict, but said “people talk all the time.”

His temper flared after being shown video of Nicholson being questioned by officers, and watching her cry on camera. During that recording, Nicholson said the plan to kill their spouses was Vey’s idea.

“She made it sound like it was f**king iron clad rather than, you know, f**k, it’s just a f**king discussion,” Vey said.

In their investigation RCMP seized two phones and a computer belonging to Vey, who claimed officers would not find any evidence of wrongdoing.

“I got nothing to hide, they can go through all the paperwork they want,” Vey said on the recording. “All they’ll f**king catch is a f**king few emails to a couple women, but that’s not incriminating anyways.”

Ironically, at one point Vey talked to the officer how sometimes RCMP plant an undercover Mounties in the cells.

“Keep your eyes out,” the officer told Vey.

The audio is expected to finish playing in court tomorrow June 1 before moving on to audio from a conversation Nicholson had with an undercover officer in her cell.

The trial is expected to finish on Friday.
