Car restoring more than a hobby for Meadow Lake resident

May 20, 2016 | 5:00 PM

A love for cars, cruising and a motivation to recreate the moments of a first date are what led Meadow Lake Cruisers President Bill Krasicki to join the club 16 years ago.

Krasicki owns a completely restored 1956 mercury two-door hard top and said he restored it because of a childhood envy.

“But also I dated my wife in one of those. The first date we ever had was in of them so I thought one day I’m going to restore one so we could date again,” he said.

Krasicki’s wish came true in 1999 when he was able to buy the vehicle as a shell from a junk-yard and after nearly 10 years of work, he’s been able to cruise around with it for the last six years.

However, the recreated first date has yet to happen.

“It’s coming…” Krasicki said with a laugh. “Hopefully this year at cruise night in Saskatoon.”

Car enthusiasts are invited to the Meadow Lake and district arena to view Krasicki’s ’56 Mercury or any of the other vehicles there such as a 1938 Chev, muscle cars and antique bikes, which are a new addition this year.

Each year Krasicki said the cruisers club donates money to the community living group while welcoming a booth which will accept donations for the Wounded Warriors Weekend.

People coming for the cars can also learn more about what it takes to restore them, insure them and are invited to a dinner the cruisers club is hosting.

“Outside of our own show, we travel to other car shows like the one in Cold Lake, Battlefords, Lloydminster and other surrounding communities,” Krasicki added.
