Tanker fire briefly shuts highway

May 18, 2016 | 11:33 AM

A semi-tanker hauling crude oil burned early Wednesday morning, briefly forced the shutdown of a highway north of Lloydminster.

The incident happened on Highway 3, four kilometres east of the junction with Highway 17. RCMP said at 12:15 a.m. the burning tanker was hauling a half-full load of crude oil and drivers could expect delays.

By 1 a.m. one lane of the highway had reopened.

Nobody was injured in the fire, and none of the crude oil spilled. Police said the oil was being offloaded into another truck, and a tow truck was on its way.
