Municipal candidates may have to disclose campaign contributions

May 10, 2016 | 12:13 PM

Candidates running for mayor and council may soon have to cough-up their campaign’s financials.

North Battleford city council wants to create a bylaw obliging candidates to disclose what contributions they receive and where their money goes during a municipal election. City manager Jim Puffalt said he supports the proposed bylaw.

“What it provides to the community, for the voters, is an open and transparent government,” he said.

“I think it’s important. It protects the voters, again, from any types of special interest groups trying to take control of an election.”
