Mental health patients display their talents

May 4, 2016 | 5:00 PM

In honour of mental health week, patients from the Battlefords were encouraged to show off their skills in Saskatchewan Hospital’s fifth annual talent show today, May 4.

“It shows that people with mental illnesses are people, too,” Glenn Nachtegaele, a mental therapist at Sask Hospital, said. “They have talents that they’d like to show the world as well. It’s a way for them to show the people that they are alive.”

The talent show is also put on to help improve patients’ self-confidence and show the public how well their rehabilitation is going.

Roughly 25 patients participated from throughout the community and Sask Hospital with talents ranging from guitar playing, singing, poetry and painting.
