Rash of fraud phone calls in the Battlefords

Apr 27, 2016 | 6:00 AM

An average of 20 reports of fraudulent phone calls per day have been reported to the Battlefords RCMP over the last 10 days.

According to police, members of the public filed 200 reports of receiving calls from someone claiming to be a representative of the Canada Revenue Agency. The caller indicates the person owes back taxes and demands payment immediately or police will be dispatched to arrest them if they don’t pay.

The RCMP and Canada Revenue Agency would like to remind the public to be aware of these ongoing phishing scams. The CRA will never request any personal information or payments over the phone. RCMP investigators say anyone who demands that information should be hung up on and reported to police.
