“Basically it was as close to clean-up of all the awards that you can get.”

The Battlefords Community Players (BCP) took home a lot of hardware from the 82 Provincial TheatreFest last week in Moose Jaw.

The group performed The Shrew at the provincial festival, which is an adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic The Taming of the Shrew.

The performance took home the McIntosh Cup for best entry in the festival and received the award for Best Visual Presentation.

In addition to awards for the play, the players garnered individual awards as well. Clint Barrett was the co-winner of the Best Actor Award, Kerry Volk and Holly Briant received honorable mentions for their roles and co-directors Roy Challis and Bernie Cardin won the Best Director Award.

“Basically it was as close to clean-up of all the awards you can get,” Challis said.

He added the Battlefords Community Players have performed at the festival and won awards before, but this win is a proud moment for him because of the play itself.

“Because it’s not as conventional  as most of the work that we do, it felt good just to have it affirmed that quality work, whether it’s Shakespeare or a laughing comedy, does get selected when you’re in a judication process,” he said.

Challis continued on by giving credit to all the people in the cast and crew who make all things the group do possible.

“It’s the ensemble. All of the people working together are the ones that actually do it,” he said.

Challis added he and the rest of Battlefords Community Players enjoyed their time in Moose Jaw and performing at the event.
