A local mother and daughter are excited for North Battleford to have the chance to host the 2018 Sask. Winter Games.

Christa Lessard competed as a cross-country skier at the 1990 Winter Games in Melville, while her daughter Zoë Schultz competed as an alpine skier in the 2010 Winter Games in Moose Jaw.

The two have lived in North Battleford for the past seven years and Lessard said the Games are great for the athletes and the host city.

“For both of us it was such a great experience and now that we’re living in this community, it’ll be a great experience for the athletes and also the community to be a part of the Games…You do think it’s kind of like a mini-Olympics because you see the opening ceremonies of the Olympics and it’s very similar to the opening ceremonies of the Games.”
