Stars fall 4-1 to Estevan, as Bruins pull away late

The Battlefords North Stars fell 4-1 Tuesday night, to the Estevan Bruins in North Battleford.

A 1-1 tie heading into the third period, the goalies stole the show much of the evening.

Ulrik Roussel was the Stars’ best player on the night, stopping 33 of 36 Bruins’ shots in the loss, while Estevan’s Boston Bilous made 33 saves on 34 shots for the win.

The North Stars opened the scoring on Jordan Grill’s second of the season, coming on a slapshot from the point, making it 1-0 Battlefords with just under two minutes to go in the first.

Estevan’s Mark Rumsey made it 1-1 with his first of the game and sixth of the season, not-quite half way through the second to knot the score on a power play goal. The veteran then also adding his second of the night, midway through the third, to make it a 2-1 Bruins lead.

All total, Rumsey also added two assists on the night, to factor in on all four of his team’s goals, with two goals, two assists on the night.

Olivier Pouliot’s fourth of the season made it a 3-1 game for the Bruins with just 2:30 to go in regulation, before Mikol Sartor capped the night with an empty netter at the 19:13 mark to make it 4-1 Estevan, the final.

With the loss, the North Stars are now 8-4-2 on the season through their first 14 games. Estevan improve to 8-3-1 through their first 12 with the win.

The North Stars will return to action Friday against the division-rival, Humboldt Broncos in North Battleford.
