Firefighters tackle blaze at North Battleford building

Aug 19, 2021 | 5:52 PM

North Battleford firefighters were busy Thursday afternoon around 3:30 p.m. quickly putting out a fire at a four-plex building on 101st Street and 17th Avenue.

Fire chief Lindsay Holm says there was no one in the building when crews attended the blaze.

“We did have a report there was somebody inside. So we made entry right away,” Holm added. “Thankfully, nobody was inside the structure at the time, and we were able to get the fire under control fairly quickly.”

He said there were a few occupants staying in the adjoining suites who were also out of the building before crews arrived.

After putting out the fire, the fire crews focused on putting some of the hot spots out, and doing some salvage work on the structure.

The fire was contained to one suite in the northeast corner, although there will be smoke damage in some of the other suites in the building. The lower level of the structure sustained most of the damage.

“We were able to contain the fire to the suite of origin,” Holm said. “I”m very proud of my fire crew. They did a great job getting everything set up and getting the fire under control.”

The fire department is still determining the cause of the fire.
